About ten years ago, we were grilling for dinner and ran out of barbecue sauce for the meat. Rather than wasting gas to go pick a bottle up from the store, or eating the meat dry, our family decided that we would try making our own sauce. As we began looking up the basic ingredients that go into barbecue sauce, we had the idea to write down the recipe we would concoct, just in case we needed to tweak the recipe or use it again.
After throwing some ingredients together—a little spice, a little sweet, a touch of tang—the Monkey Sauce was born after a single attempt. As we were blown away with the flavor and taste the sauce owned, we decided to name it and have anyone we knew try it.
It was originally named after a nickname George received from his boss and co-workers and since he was the creator, it seemed to fit. Since then, the sauce has developed into quite a popular alternative to store-bought barbecue sauce and is requested by friends and family across North America. We ended up adapting to a more fitting name of Five Monkeys Barbecue Sauce because of the five members of our family.
It is and continues to be truly a family originated recipe and a labor of love as all of us are involved in the public launching of Five Monkeys Barbecue Sauce.
